Welcome to Leaf & Sunshine!
What does the name mean? Simply, the leaf of a plant provides clues about its health. The sun provides energy – a key component in supplying the right conditions for growing and maintaining healthy plant cells. There you have it; healthy leaves make for healthy plants aided by the amount of sun – and we as carers have control of the environment in which we grow our plants.
At Leaf & Sunshine, we aim to help you grow healthy plants while promoting self-care. We are passionate about all plant care, but our focus is the care of houseplants and the urban planting environment. We see providing care to plants as an opportunity to nurture ourselves; if there is space to grow plants in pots in an urban environment, these same opportunities exist, as well as an opportunity to feed ourselves and share the produce we grow. Whether we allow ourselves moments or hours in the relaxation and work that comes from caring for plants, it can be a meditative and peaceful time. We encourage you to deepen into that aspect of plant care that is “your time” to unwind, unplug, and recharge. Let your inner sun shine!
Our Story
Over 25 years ago, I began my first home garden growing flowers, then vegetables, and discovered a love for outdoor gardening, just like my mother, an avid gardener. Over time, my passion expanded to include growing indoor plants. Sharing the beauty and bounty of my garden brought me joy and inspired me to make a difference in others’ lives through gifting. My indoor plant collection was growing and ‘baby plants’ were taking over – I’m sure some of you can relate! I began sharing my indoor plant collection, propagated through different methods, with friends and family, sharing knowledge of plant care for the gifted plants. A few plant families are thriving in so many homes! That makes me smile. To know that joy is given and received, is a lovely feeling.
